How NeoProfit reads COGS from Shopify inventory costs

Last updated 2026-05-13

NeoProfit reads cost-of-goods directly from your Shopify product variants — the "Cost per item" field on each variant.

This means:

  • You don't have to maintain a separate cost spreadsheet inside NeoProfit.
  • When you update a variant's cost in Shopify (say, after a supplier price increase), every future profit calculation uses the new number automatically.
  • Historical orders keep the cost they were sold at — Shopify's cost-per-item is the cost at the time of the order, not retroactively.

If a variant has no cost set in Shopify, NeoProfit treats its COGS as $0 for that order. The product analytics tab flags variants with missing costs so you can fix them in bulk.

For supplier-side overrides (e.g. dropship landed cost differing from Shopify's stored cost), use the per-variant overrides feature.
